Inventory tracks both sides of your product shelf: retail you sell to clients, and back-bar you use behind the chair. Color, developer, shampoo, tools: if you buy it and use it, this is where it stops being a mystery expense.

The catalog

Choose whether a product is used for Back bar, Retail, or Both. Products marked Retail or Both are the ones you can ring up at checkout, on an invoice, and on the point-of-sale screen. Its product type determines which details you record: color, developer, lightener, styling, hair care and treatments, chemical treatments, extensions, or supplies. Lightener names show the product line, lift level, and type, such as Blonde IQ 9 - Powder. If a level is not entered, the name shows the line and type. The stats across the top show what’s in stock, what’s running low, and what you’ve spent this month. Search and filters get you to any product fast, which matters more than it sounds once the catalog is a few hundred products deep. On web, search updates the product list after a brief pause in typing. The URL keeps your search and filters so you can bookmark or share the same view. The web list shows up to 50 products per page. Use Previous and Next at the bottom to browse the rest; the row range and page count show where you are. The URL also keeps your page, and changing a filter returns to the first page of matching products. In the iOS app, the Back-bar and Retail filters both include products marked Both.

Inventory for booth renters

Booth renters run their own inventory. Inventory shows a booth renter the products and stock they own. Salon owners and admins see both salon and renter inventory, with an owner label on every product. When a booth renter scans or adds a product, Sable saves it to their own inventory. This stays separate even when the salon stocks the same barcode. Restocks, stock adjustments, low-stock thresholds, and purchases update only that renter’s product. Product usage and retail checkout draw down the same owned stock, so the salon’s count does not change. Usage must match the appointment’s inventory owner, including when the front desk records it. A renter’s appointment uses that renter’s products; a salon stylist’s appointment uses salon products. Sable checks this when usage is logged or edited. Give Jules a barcode to look up a product, then ask it to add or restock it. Jules shows the product, owner, stock quantity, units, and any prices for your confirmation before saving.

Add products by scanning

Choose scan barcode from Inventory and scan the products in your order. Sable groups repeated scans of the same product into one step, with the scan count ready as the starting stock. On iPhone and iPad, a barcode counts once while it stays in view; move to the next package to count another. A catalog match opens a pre-filled product form. Review the shade or name, brand, line, package size, pricing, and notes. Every field stays editable. If a catalog match has no product type, pick one to keep filling in its details. For an unknown barcode, pick a product type and fill in the same form. The barcode stays attached to the product. Products already in your inventory open a restock card. It shows the current stock, the packages to add, and the resulting count. Change the quantity with plus, minus, or by typing, then choose add to stock, or finish on the last step. Sable refreshes the current stock when you open a restock step. Choose save and next to save each new product, or finish on the last step. Skip this one moves past an item. Cancel discards the remaining items and keeps products already saved. You can refresh the page and resume at the same position. On iPhone and iPad, remaining scans also stay available when you leave the app and return.

Add products by hand

To add a list of products or stock counts together, attach a CSV, Excel XLSX, or PDF to Jules in chat. Review selected updates and choose whether existing stock is replaced or increased before one confirmation saves the validated rows. See Import products and services. Choose add manually from Inventory, then pick the product type. Fill in the product details, package size, pricing, and notes. As you type in shade, name, line, or brand, catalog suggestions appear under that field. Choose a match to fill in the form, then change any details you need. Details missing from the catalog keep the values you already entered. Focusing an existing value does not open suggestions. On the web, you can switch browser tabs and return to the product you are adding. Your selected type and entered details stay available while this form remains open in the same account and workspace. Leaving the form, refreshing the page, or changing workspace access starts a new entry. If you have stock access, enter the starting in stock count and set alert when it drops to with threshold access. A low-stock alert needs a starting count, including zero if you have none. Choose save product to add it to your inventory.

Stock, counts, and the low-stock line

Ask Jules “What’s running low?” to check your stock, or ask it to change an alert, update several counts, or log product use on an appointment. Jules shows the details for your confirmation before making a change. Bulk count updates apply to salon-owned products. Single-product stock and alert cards include the owner name. Open a product to see its in stock card, pricing, product details, and activity. Use plus to add one package or minus to remove one package. The count previews your changes as you work. Tap the green check to save the adjustment. A product without a count shows not tracked; choose start tracking to begin at zero.

Use your own product photo

Sable finds a product image for you when it can. To use your own, open the product and choose its image. On the web, choose choose photo, position the square crop, and save. On iPhone and iPad, choose take or choose a photo; Sable crops it to a square. Choose remove photo to go back to the product type icon. Anyone who can edit the product can change its photo, and a photo you set stays until you change it. Stock stops at zero. If recorded usage exceeds the available count, Sable keeps the full usage record and marks the shortfall in activity. Count the shelf and update in stock to reconcile it. Deleting a purchase requires enough stock to reverse the packages it added. The shelf bar shows the current stock against the balance after the last restock. The amber alert marker shows your low-stock level. A running low or out of stock chip tells you when the shelf needs attention. Weighed products show packages first, with grams alongside. Counted products show their package count, such as four boxes of gloves. Activity combines usage, retail sales, restocks, stock adjustments, and unit changes in date order. On desktop, use all, used, sold, or stock to filter it.

Edit product details and pricing

Choose edit on the product page. Product types show the fields that fit: shade for color, volume for developer, type and level for lightener, and type, texture, color, and length for extensions. Hair care, styling, and supplies have a product name. Select a different product type to change the fields; a note lists any answers that will be removed when you save. For Color, enter the shade and choose its type: permanent, high lift, demi-permanent, semi-permanent, toner / gloss, or direct dye. For developer volume, choose 10 vol, 20 vol, 30 vol, or 40 vol. Choose other to type a custom volume, such as 6 vol or single strength. Set the package’s amount, unit, and package, such as 2 fl oz in bottles or 100 ct in boxes. Choose other to enter your own package word. Extensions use packs, with pieces per pack and grams per strand to calculate the pack weight. Pricing shows the fields that match how the product is used. For Retail and Both, enter your cost and choose a markup to calculate the retail price. Choose type a percentage for a custom markup. You can also enter the retail price directly and the markup recalculates. For Back bar and Both, back-bar markup sets what the product costs a client when it is used in a service. Cost, markup, and stock value are visible to team members with cost access. In tracking, set alert when it drops to in packages. To record an exact count, edit in stock. For weighed products, use the small unit selector to enter packages or grams. A reason for the change field appears after you edit the count. Choose save changes to save your product details and any stock changes. Editing other details leaves the current count alone. Changing only stock or its alert saves independently of the other product details. For a product with no saved package conversion, tracking shows and edits the stored unit, such as grams. Stock quantities display up to two decimal places. Quick stock updates and restock buttons keep that precision as you add or subtract.

Remove a product you no longer carry

If you do not plan to buy a product again, open it and choose delete product. Confirming removes it from active inventory and stops future low-stock alerts. Sable keeps its past usage, purchases, formulas, and stock adjustments so your history and reports remain accurate.

Retail at checkout

Retail products are sellable straight from checkout, and the sale draws down stock automatically. The shelf and the numbers stay in agreement without a clipboard involved.

Why back-bar tracking is worth it

Retail tracks itself through sales. Back-bar is where the quiet money leaks: color over-dispensed, developer that evaporates into “we’re out again.” Tracking usage per product shows your real cost per service, and your reports compare product cost against revenue so you can see whether the back bar is priced into your services or eating them.

Inventory settings

On the web, choose the gear to the left of Add product to open inventory settings. On iPhone, tap the gear to the left of + on the Inventory screen. Set the back-bar and retail markups with the sliders, or select a percentage to enter a custom value. The examples update as you edit. New products start with your saved retail markup. In a product’s pricing, leave back-bar markup empty to use the salon default, or enter an override; charge per package shows the resulting price. Choose none, per appointment, or per service for included product. For appointments, enter each appointment includes in dollars. For services, follow set the amount on each service and enter included product on each service. The allowances for the visit’s services add together. Turn on charge tax on product fees if needed, then choose Save. Settings open automatically on your first visit until you save them. You need preferences and cost access to view them, and update access to save changes.

Product fees

Product usage logged on an appointment contributes to one Product fee at checkout. The charge uses the product’s cost per gram or unit and its back-bar markup when usage is logged. Later cost or markup changes do not reprice that usage. Products without a cost add nothing. Inventory preferences set the default back-bar and retail markups, an included product allowance, and whether product fees are taxable. Defaults are 50% for both markups, no allowance, and no tax on the fee. A saved retail markup applies to new Retail or Both products that do not specify their own markup. It does not set a retail price on back-bar-only products. Booth renters have their own preferences for their own inventory. The allowance can apply once per appointment or add up across its services. It subtracts from the client price after markup. Each product charge rounds to cents before the charges are added. For example, 9.30ofproductwitha9.30 of product with a 5 allowance leaves a $4.30 fee. An allowance that covers the product charge leaves no fee line. Expand product fee at checkout to review each product and the included amount. Choose adjust to reduce the fee or remove to waive it; an adjusted line shows the difference so the breakdown adds up to the fee. A reduced or removed fee keeps its original calculation and the staff member responsible in the sale record. Client receipts show one combined Product fee line when an amount is charged; a fully waived fee is left off the client receipt and invoice. Still stuck? Bring inventory from your previous system

Your migration specialist can prepare retail and back-bar products from your exports, including prices, opening stock and low-stock thresholds. Each product belongs to the salon or one named booth renter. The specialist reviews stock units and package conversions with you before applying changes. A product without an opening count keeps its existing stock. This setup has its own owner authorization. It records inventory adjustments without placing orders, moving money or sending client messages.
